O. Ford Gibson Installed as Orange Bowl Committee President & Chairman

Miami Lakes, Fla.– O. Ford Gibson was installed as the Orange Bowl Committee’s new President and Chairman of the Board during an evening reception on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at Riviera Country Club in Coral Gables.  An Orange Bowl Committee member since 2000, Gibson succeeds Immediate Past President Jeffery T. Roberts as the 74th President of the Orange Bowl Committee. 

Under his leadership, Gibson will oversee the Committee’s continued mission to promote and serve the South Florida community, while presiding over the 2012-13 Orange Bowl Festival which includes the 2013 Discover Orange Bowl and the 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game. The 2012-13 Orange Bowl Festival marks the second time the Orange Bowl Committee has "double hosted" two BCS games, and will mark the 19th time the Orange Bowl has hosted the National Champion. In addition to the annual football game, the 2012-13 Orange Bowl Festival includes the19th Annual MetroPCS Basketball Classic and a collection of entertainment, family and youth sports events.

"Serving the South Florida community, I am ready and excited to lead the Orange Bowl Committee as we prepare for double hosting duties, presenting both the 79th Orange Bowl and 2013 Discover BCS National Championship Game," said Gibson.  "The economic impact of double hosting and the exposure the games create for South Florida is a tremendous opportunity to positively impact our community and showcase all that we have to offer visitors."

Gibson will also oversee the Orange Bowl’s commitment to youth sports in South Florida. On an annual basis, the Orange Bowl supports the Orange Bowl Youth Football Alliance presented by Sports Authority, which serves more than 16,000 young football players and cheerleaders in nine youth football leagues spread out across South Florida, from Lake Okeechobee to Key West. Since 1999, the Orange Bowl has invested approximately $4.5 million in youth sports in South Florida.

Andrew P. Hertz moves into Gibson’s previous role as President & Chairman-Elect and will serve as the 75th President & Chairman during the 2013-14 year. Luis E. Boué will serve as First Vice-Chair and will become President & Chairman of the 2014-15 Orange Bowl Festival. Eric L. Poms enters his seventh year as the Chief Executive Officer and marks his 20th year overall with the Committee.

"Ford spearheaded and led the Committee’s efforts to restore and revitalize Moore Park, and I am confident he will build upon the Committee’s history as one of the leading civic organizations in South Florida."

Ford Gibson is currently the Chief Executive Officer at Gibson Development Partners, a leading real estate development firm in South Florida. For more than 20 years, Gibson has earned a reputation in the South Florida real estate world for his innovative management approach and rock solid business practices. His development portfolio includes more than 12.5 million square feet of office, retail, industrial, manufacturing, and multifamily projects.  Gibson was instrumental in the redevelopment of Orange Bowl Field at Moore Park, which represented the Orange Bowl’s Legacy Gift for its 75th Anniversary and a total investment of $5.6 million. In addition to the Orange Bowl Committee, Gibson serves on the boards on other notable local organizations. A letterman in football at Clemson University, he graduated with a BS in Construction Management and received his MBA from Tulane University. Gibson lives in Pinecrest with his wife Lynn and their three children.
